The Free One Yard Wonder Quilt Pattern

The One Yard Wonder is my go to pattern when I want to make a quick and easy baby quilt. All it takes is one yard of fabric and a few extra pieces you probably have in your stash. It is a great way to use cute novelty or large print fabrics. The large background pieces really let those prints shine. The three variations in this pattern would make great charity quilts too!

My quilt features an ABC print with the names of the objects and animals in Italian. I bought this print 10 years ago because I knew it would be perfect if my brother, who lived in Italy for two years, had children one day. And he did!

The quilt is super easy to make (great for beginners!) and the downloadable pdf has instructions for three different variations. The basic steps of the pattern are simple.

Step 1: Cut the yard of background fabric into two sections

Step 2: Prepare a panel to insert

There are three different panels that you can insert:

  1. A panel of patchwork squares (this is what I did)

  2. A panel made of strips of fabric (perfect for jelly roll strips!)

  3. A solid panel of one fabric. This is another great way to feature larger prints.

Step 3: Sew border strips to the top and bottom of the panel

Step 4: Sew the background pices to the panel

Easy peasy! This would be a great first quilt to make with your kids or grandkids or as a charity quilt. Click the button below to download the complete pattern.
