You Can Quilt! Building Skills for Beginners

10 years ago, I decided I wanted to improve my quilting skills and try new things. To keep myself accountable and to have more fun by sewing with others, I decided to start the Skill Builder Sampler Quilt Along. Each month for a year we focused on a different quilting skill or technique. The first week in each month we made a super easy block, the second week an intermediate block, and the third week we completed a harder block with that skill.

I soon learned that the hardest part of learning a new skill was getting over my fear and just doing it!

I loved our year of skill building and wanted to share what I had learned with more people. Working with Marlene Oddie, a Skill Builder participant, we were able to get the quilt along published as a book by AQS in 2015!

Soon afterwards, AQS decided to get out of the publishing business and the last few copies of the You Can Quilt! Building Skills for Beginners sold out. Recently, Marlene and I were able to purchase the rights to You Can Quilt! We were sooo excited! There were a lot of things we had wanted to fix for years and now we had the chance to fix them and offer this ebook as a resourse to quilters again!

Building Skills for Beginners makes it seem like this book is only for beginners, but it isn't!!! In addition to the basics, it covers topics like curves, foundation paper piecing, inset seams, and improvisation. There are tons of things for intermediate quilters to learn and try for the first time!

The 12 Chapters in You Can Quilt! cover:

1. Learning the Basics
2. Half-Square Triangles
3. Quarter-Square Triangles
4. Flying Geese
5. Wonky Blocks
6. Improvisation
7. Foundation Paper Piecing
8. Curves
9. One-Patch Blocks
10. Applique
11. Inset Seams
12. Challenge Blocks (These are CRAZY hard!)

In addition to this 176 page ebook, there are also instructions for 12 different layouts and projects you can make with the quilt blocks at www.skillbuildersampler.com. WOW!

Grab a friend, pick up a copy, and have fun learning new skills. The ebook is available in my pattern shop or on Etsy. If everyone outside of the US could use Etsy, it really helps me stay tax legal. Thanks!
