Quilt Patterns and Tutorials for Scrap-Happy Quilters

  • I have one lecture and two workshops that I teach right now. The lecture is Three Ways to Choose Fabric for Scrap Quilts. It is basically a trunk show with a theme. I talk about my quilting journey and how to choose scraps based on color, designer, or theme when making a quilt. I have tons of examples for each method of choosing scraps. It's really a fun presentation. 1 hour lecture, $130.

  • How to draft foundation paper pieced Scrappy Triangles: Scrappy Triangles are half square triangles with one half pieced from fabric scraps and the other half a solid piece of fabric. (See the pictures attached below.) Class description: In this hands on class you will learn to draft and sew your own foundation paper pieced Scrappy Triangles! You will learn how to draft triangles of different sizes, how to tell what can and cannot be paper pieced, in what order the blocks should be pieced, and what sizes of fabric you will need for each section. • Scrappy Mountain Range Quilt: This is a project based class where we will work on making the Scrappy Mountain Range quilt that I am running right now as a quilt along. ( I will provide a printed quilt pattern (not foundations), tips on how to choose and organize their foundations, the importance of labeling, and foundation paper piecing help. Students should be familiar with basic foundation paper piecing. Scrappy Mountain Range pattern purchase will be required in addition to the class fee. I will provide a coupon code for the participants and give them a list of what foundations they will need to print for the class. 6 hour class, 20 student maximum, $500.

  • If there is a sizable group that is unfamiliar with foundation paper piecing, I can also teach a beginning FPP class. 3 hours, $300

When I say students need to be familiar with foundation paper piecing, they don't need to be experts, but they do need to have made one or two blocks before - even if it is just a couple weeks before the class. I have a guide to foundation paper piecing on my blog: And my Scrappy Triangles are great beginner blocks. They can download them for free here:

  • I charge the going IRS standard milage rate (58 cents for 2019) for driving, or the cost of an airline flight, baggage check fees, and an Uber to and from the airport. It looks like there are some pretty good deals on Southwest between St Louis and Des Moines. That is probably the way to go.

  • $20 per diem or meals provided by guild.

  • Hotel accommodations.

  • If flying, transportation to and from the classes. Either via Uber or a guild member picking me up.

I think that is it. Let me know if you need more detailed information on the lecture or any of the classes. I have attached a brief snippet below that can be put in a newsletter to announce the lecture as well as a brief bio. When you choose a class, I can provide photos, an official description and flier, if desired.
