Scrappy Geese Quilt Along

I want to make a quilt with the Scrappy Geese* foundations! Do you want to join me? The Quilt Along starts next week (June 17th, 2019) and I want to give you all the details.

*The Scrappy Geese are foundation paper pieced flying geese, like those pictured above. You can find more info and pictures in my shop.

Some mock ups of the Scrappy Geese quilt.

Some mock ups of the Scrappy Geese quilt.

First, the basics:

Quilt Size: 50" x 60"

You will need to purchase the Scrappy Geese foundations (the Complete bundle with all 5 sizes - get the coupon code below!).

I will post additional setting instructions on my blog and via email. There are two different setting options: one with the columns of geese going in the same direction, and the other with the columns of geese alternating direction. The only difference is the very last step, when the columns are sewn together.

To get you started, now through June 23rd, 2019, you can use the code SCRAPPYQAL to save 20% on the Complete Scrappy Geese Bundle. (It is only good for that pattern.)

Sept 16th: Last day to post a picture of your completed quilt top to be entered to win the Grand Prize! (#ScrappyGeeseQALfinish) The quilt does not need to be quilted or bound.

* Instructions will be sent via email (sign up here) and posted on my blog for how to sew the Scrappy Geese together into blocks.

I don't know about you, but I am super motivated by prizes, so we are going to have a prize for every segment of the quilt along. To enter, post a picture of your quilt blocks on Instagram with the appropriate hashtag. Please, use the hashtags listed above in the schedule, so I can easily find your picture. A winner will be randomly selected on the following day.

The first segment of the quilt along is Sort Your Scraps and Pick Out Fabric, June 17th-June 23rd. When you post a picture of your sorted scraps and fabric pull by June 23rd, with the #ScrappyGeeseQALfabric hashtag, you will be entered to win your choice of a personally curated fabric bundle from me or up to $30 worth of patterns from my shop! (If the winner lives outside the US, they will get the patterns. Sorry, shipping is crazy!)

I am working out the details for the rest of the giveaways, but there will be free longarm quilting provided by Trace Creek Quilting, fabric bundles provided by Mashe Modern Fabrics and Cotton Cuts Collective, and a gift certificate to the Fat Quarter Shop. Yay!

Common Questions:

  • Can I work ahead? Sure! You may work ahead, but all pictures must be posted during the appropriate dates and with the appropriate hashtag.

  • What if I fall behind? If you fall behind, feel free to skip ahead to catch up on the current blocks (so you can qualify for the prizes). Then go back and make the rest as you have time.

  • Do I need to buy a pattern? Yes, you will need to purchase the Scrappy Geese foundations. I will email you the rest of the instructions for the quilt. (Sign up for the emails here.)

  • Can I make the quilt with the Scrappy Mountain foundations instead of the Scrappy Geese foundations? Sure! Just know that you will have to make multiples of each mountain. There are only 12 Scrappy Mountains in each size vs 20 Scrappy Geese in each size.

How do I make sure I get all the Quilt Along Emails?

I'm glad you asked! I am going to post all the instructions and info on my blog but, for many of us, it is easier to get the info in an email. If you want all the Scrappy Geese info emailed to you, click below and you'll be taken to a sign up page.

I think that is it! Do you have any other questions? Comment below and I’ll get them answered.

Thanks! I can’t wait to sew along with all of you!
